Why Should I Use a Night Cream?

Sometimes people ask whether it's worth using a night cream vs a day cream - isn't this just a way for companies to essentially make more sales. Great question, isn't it?

A day moisturiser and night cream not only will feel differently on your skin – one is usually lovely and light and the other is creamier and luxurious, but they are formulated to work a little differently from each other.  Here’s why;

A day cream is formulated to keep your skin hydrated and work on protecting your skin against environmental aggressors like UV, pollution and free radicals.  Taking into consideration that you apply sunscreen over your moisturizer during the day, you will naturally produce more oil and sweat more than you do at night, it’s why we intuitively prefer a lighter moisturizer to keep our skin feeling fresh and not weighed down.

Whereas a night cream is formulated to rehydrate your skin with lots of emollients and repair any damage done during the day. When you're asleep, your body takes the time to heal itself and this is also true for your skin. Therefore, when your night cream is loaded with good quality active ingredients, your skin will use these ingredients to do the work hence the phrase 'getting your beauty sleep'.

When it comes to formulating night creams, it’s really impossible to load one product with all the essential ingredients, so that’s why it’s really important to pick out a serum to compliment your night cream.

So to help make sure your building a solid night-time skin routine, here are our must have ingredients to look out for:
